Installation & Care
Magnetic Armor Tips & Tricks
ARMOR INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION:
- IMPORTANT: The cleaner the nano-hold technology Armor (gel-back) and paint surface is, the stronger the Armor adhesion will be.
- Armor is designed for off-road trail protection, do not leave on for extended periods of time without regularly removing the Armor to clean it and the vehicle. A thin layer of dust and grime builds up from daily driving that may build-up under the Armor causing the panel to lift during higher speeds of travel.
- Install (and store) only when clean and dry. To clean the gel-back side, rinse with water and gently rub off any debris with clean hands to maximize and preserve adhesion life. Allow to air dry before reinstallation or storage. Do not scrub gel-back with any material but you can use your fingers to work out any lodged in dirt while the panel is held under running water. Mild soap should be used to help clean off any oils.
- Gel-back Armor installation may take 1-2 hours and install is recommended prior to heading to the trails. Allow 24-48 hours for the gel-back Armor to properly bond BEFORE getting it wet. Magnet panel installation should take about 15-30 minutes and can be installed at the trail head.
- Prep the vehicle surface by cleaning off any waxes and dirt. If you have any rain repelling, non-stick, anti-static or Teflon waxes or detailers on your vehicle these must be cleaned off for the gel-back Armor to properly bond. Please note non-stick type chemicals that market as repelling anything from your vehicle are designed to chemically prevent anything from bonding to the surface. Recommend using diluted isopropyl alcohol with water. Wet one microfiber cloth in the mixture and gently wipe vehicle surface (no need to rub just let the chemical do its thing) and use a second dry microfiber cloth to wipe off the mixture before it dries. For ceramic coatings, use a test panel to try to bond the Armor after cleaning. Recommend ordering a MEK nano-hold technology logo to test adhesion ability prior to ordering the Armor as some ceramic coatings allow the Armor to bond to it but some will not.
- Handle with clean oil-free hands, avoid touching gel-back side as much as possible. Lightly hold gel-back Armor by edges and if you need to grab the sticky side place your hand along the middle of the longer side of the panel and do not touch by a corner. This will prevent fingerprint oils from collecting in a corner of the panel preventing the panel from properly bonding to the vehicle.
- Armor panels are best handled and installed at room temperature. Ensure vehicle is clean, dry, oil and wax free. Verify there is no dirt or debris on the magnet or sticky side of the gel-back Armor. Failure to remove all debris may result in damage to your vehicle or loss of panel.
- Remove armor from packaging and unroll image side up. Fold and gently pinch at panel corner to peel the panel out. Handle by panel edges as much as possible. Note the corresponding vehicle section for each panel removed.
- Hold the panel a few inches away over the corresponding section of vehicle and align vehicle features such as hinges, edges, and handles. Allow a small section of one side of the panel to touch the vehicle to initiate adhesion or magnetic connection. For larger panels, once one section sticks to the vehicle, align the other side properly to the vehicle and start pressing it down and smoothing it from opposite edge inwards. Once you have that side properly installed, peel back the side that you initially allowed to gently touch all the way back to where you left off pressing down the opposite side. You will be able to feel the bond is much stronger where the panel was pressed down properly and see if there is any trapped air. Pull back to where there is no trapped air and the bond feels strong, and with holding the edge of the panel slightly away from the vehicle, continue to press the panel onto the vehicle in a fanning motion from the center out towards the edges. As you work your way towards the end of that panel slowly allow it to come in contact with the vehicle as you keep fanning and pressing it down.
- If any panel is misaligned, peel off evenly and slow. Always remove panel by evenly pulling straight back and PERPENDICULAR to the vehicle. This is critical to not stretching the material. The adhesive is very strong so be especially careful pulling around thinner shapes and sections. For the Jeep front quarter panels with the Jeep letter cutouts, it is recommended to start removing the panel from the top, but once you pull back to the Jeep letters, then also start peeling the panel off from the bottom to gently meet in the middle and not stretch or tear the panel around the delicate Jeep lettering. The best way to start peeling a panel back is to get a finger nail under a corner, try your best to not press your finger pad into the sticky side of the corner as fingerprints and oils might transfer and prevent this corner from properly bonding. Ensure you get your finger nail under the whole panel and not just catch it by the panel edge (some designs are printed vinyl wrapped onto the Armor panel and you do not want to accidentally peel off the vinyl) start to work the panel up and away from the vehicle and work your way down towards a larger section of the panel where you can easily place your hand. Pro tip is to peel back the whole length of one side before you start pulling the whole panel off. Place your fingers onto the gel side with your thumbs on the image side close to the middle of the panel, with 6-10 inches of space between your hands and start pulling the panel back, perpendicular to the vehicle. Avoid damaging corners, pulling in a tearing motion, or only holding one spot, and repeat steps again. Once all armor panels are removed, clean and store. If reinstalling, follow the installation steps and then perform a final rub down with firm pressure using a microfiber cloth to ensure every panel is properly installed and allow the panel to bond to the vehicle.
- If you find air bubbles have formed under any panel, this could be a result of trapped air, debris or a substance that gave off oxygen when heated. Peel the panel back from one side and perpendicular to the vehicle until you reach the bubble to release it and reinstall the panel. A champagning of tiny air bubbles visible with the clear Armor is normal. These bubbles you can see but they do not bulge out the panel. Most of these tiny bubbles will clear on their own after a few days.
- PLEASE NOTE. some aftermarket modifications or limited-edition vehicles may have larger / different fenders, modified gas caps, added badges or trail badges etc. in different locations than the Armor cut out. The armor can be modified to fit with a sharp knife or industrial scissors, or badges can be removed or repositioned to fit designated cutout at your discretion. Failure to install the armor properly with a flush, uninterrupted bond may result in a lost or damaged panel.
Armor is rated trail use only. Never adhere anything to the hood for higher speeds. Remove regularly to clean both Armor and vehicle, do not leave on for extended periods of time. Remove immediately after adverse weather, salt or corrosive chemical exposure and high humidity conditions. Never allow moisture to collect between the Armor and vehicle. Failure to do so may result in damage to vehicle or Armor.
ARMOR CARE & MAINTENANCE:
- Printed Armor side of panels should be wiped down regularly with microfiber cloth to ensure no dirt or dust has collected under any panel section and all edges are firmly pressed and well bonded to the vehicle.
- Ensure moisture does not get between Armor panel and vehicle body. Adhesion only works when clean and dry. Remove immediately after adverse weather and high humidity conditions. Never allow moisture to collect between the Armor and vehicle. Failure to do so may result in damage to vehicle or Armor.
- Armor panels can be repositioned, removed, and reused. When removing panels, ensure gel side of Armor is clean and dry and place sticky side back on the backing material included to prevent the glue from getting dirty or drying out. If gel side loses stickiness, rinse with water and allow to air dry to reactivate. Armor can be reused up to 200 times if kept clean.
- When not using Armor, store flat in a clean and dry location. Avoiding extreme temperatures and direct sunlight. Do not fold any panel or it may result in separation or damage to panel. If using the MEK carry and storage bag, open and unroll bag and lift up the layers of sheets, starting with the bottom sheet, place the panels image side down with either magnet of the gel side facing up, unroll the next layer of sheet over the laid down panels and press down to smooth over, repeat these steps until all panels are layered in between the sheets and close the two outer flaps over the sheets. Starting from where the sheets are stitched together, roll the bag into a roll anywhere from 5" to 12" in diameter and secure the outer and bottom straps.
- Armor is rated for the maximum temperature range of 15 degrees F to 180 degrees F temperatures. Avoid extreme weather, wet conditions, freezing or excess heat and direct sunlight for extended periods of time. Handling Armor outside of its operating conditions could result in damage to Armor or vehicle. Recommend installation and removal at room temperature only.

NEW PPV - PAINT PROTECTIVE VINYL INSTALLATION:
-
NEW MEK PPV is designed to be DIY installed and stay on the vehicle for a few years. The MEK PPV offers light paint protection but for trail use it is recommended to install MEK Removable Trail Armor over the MEK PPV vinyl when trail damage is anticipated. PLEASE NOTE: DO NOT place Armor panel over a gloss ink design vinyl, Armor can go over regular printed designs only as the Armor hold may lift the gloss ink. Installation of the vinyl can be either wet or dry, but recommended wet installation unless you are a pro.
- You will need the following for the installation: residue free cleaning solution (recommend 1 part white vinegar, 4 parts water, squirt of mild dish soap mixed in a spray bottle) clean microfiber cloth, homemade slip/tack solution (1 part rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol, 7-10 parts water and a few drops of dish soap in a new spray bottle) vinyl squeegee. Clean work surface.
- Step one: prepare the vehicle by cleaning with the residue free cleaning solution and allowing to dry. For wet installation (recommended) peel off the backing from a section of the vinyl then spray the sticky side with the slip/tack solution, as you continue to remove the backing keep spraying the sticky side of the vinyl. This will make it much easier to work with and prevent the vinyl from sticking to any other surface or itself. Next, spray the surface of the vehicle where the vinyl will be installed with the same slip/tack solution. Place the vinyl sticky side down onto the sprayed section of the vehicle. You will know you strayed enough slip/tack solution because you will be able to freely "float" the vinyl over the vehicle allowing you to slide the vinyl to line up where it needs to go. Once you are happy with how the vinyl is aligned and looks, use the vinyl squeegee from the center of the installed vinyl and press the squeegee over the vinyl towards the outside. If installing a large vinyl panel you might not need to press the squeegee from the center all the way to the outer edge just yet as it will be easier to press out air bubbles and secure the vinyl onto the vehicle in smaller sections but still working your way from the center out. As you squeegee the vinyl from the center outwards, you are pressing out the slip/tack solution and creating a strong bond for the vinyl to adhere to the vehicle's surface. Pressing and pulling the squeegee back and forth from the center out as you move from left and right and up and down towards the edges is recommended to make sure you get all the air bubbles and slip/tack solution out. Pro tip: if any of the edges have too slip/tack solution and are lifting up, when you run the squeegee towards the edge, press and hold it over the very edge of the vinyl to help that edge bond with the vehicle. Gently applying heat to this edge while smoothing over with the squeegee may help as well.
- IF before you complete the installation you realize you have something misaligned or trapped air bubbles and you have not squeegeed the whole vinyl panel down, you might be able to gently pull back the vinyl by applying more slip/tack solution as you very carefully work the vinyl away from the vehicle's surface by lifting it up and away from the vehicle. If you stretch the vinyl you can fix that with a blow dryer, but if you crease it, unfortunately that crease is permanent so be very careful. Remove the vinyl to the air bubbles or completely remove if misaligned and restart the installation steps.
- Once the vinyl is installed and every section of it has been squeegeed, use a clean microfiber cloth to wipe away any slip/tack solution on the vinyl or vehicle surface.
- IF you needed to remove the vinyl part way through installation and caused a section of it to stretch or warp, after completing the wipe down step, use a blow dryer on high heat and hold it 3-4 inches away from the warped vinyl for 1-3 seconds then use the squeegee after the vinyl was warmed to press the wrinkles out from inside the panel towards the outer edge. repeat this a few times until the vinyl is smoothed out. DO NOT overheat the vinyl.
- The vinyl is designed to offer light paint protection and left on for a few years. The PPV alone will not protect your vehicle from off-road trail damage. MEK removable Trail Armor can be placed over the PPV. In order to do this, ensure the PPV is properly installed and has bonded for a few days prior to installing the Armor. Ensure no portion of the PV is dried out or lifting otherwise the Armor could remove the PPV when removing the Armor panel.
- To remove PPV, simply use the blow dryer to heat up a corner where you can start to peel back the vinyl. Pull off the vinyl and discard. Clean the vehicle with the residue free cleaning solution.
- CAUTION: MEK PPV covers partial sections of the vehicle and is not a complete wrap. Some vehicle paint may fade in the sun and may not fade evenly under the MEK PPV. Use of MEK PPV is for decorative purposes and is not intended to be a permanent fixture on the vehicle. Parking the vehicle in shade without extensive sun exposure may prevent the vehicle's paint from fading. MEK Magnet is not responsible for paint fading or any damage.
